Verder Scientific starts local project for more sustainability

In line with the corporate culture to always strive for improvement, Verder Scientific has increased its efforts to operate in a more sustainable way at the company’s headquarters in Haan, Germany, and has implemented the BLUE EFFICIENCY project.

One of the first areas targeted is packaging and waste. The effort to reduce bags and boxes for accessory articles already shows impressive results: Within the first weeks, more than 60,000 zip-lock bags could be saved as well as thousands of shrink-wrap films and cardboard boxes.

Verder Scientific not only takes care to reduce packaging for their own products but has also come to agreements with various suppliers to use so-called pendulum packaging which travels back and forth between customer and supplier and is thus used multiple times. Verder Scientific is planning to incorporate more and more suppliers into this sustainability scheme in the future.

Many small but noticeable steps have been made in the past to act in a more resource-efficient and sustainable way. The buildings in Haan are heated with geothermal energy, a large part of the required power is generated by a photovoltaic installation on the roof, the company’s car fleet is mostly emission-free. Since this summer employees get tax incentives to buy a bicycle of their choice which they can use for their way to work but also in their free time. An additional plus is an extensive service package for the bike, paid by Verder.

For the BLUE EFFICIENCY project all employees are invited to give their ideas and suggestions how to become more sustainable at the Haan premises. This is an ongoing project which is not only restricted to the headquarters but will be spread to all Verder Scientific locations and production sites to make sustainability an inherent part of the company culture.
